It was March 14, 2020 – we were all set up for the first show of the rest of our lives…(what? Too dramatic? Oh all right!)
Well, it’s not dramatized to say we were ready for a 10 day county fair, nor that we were set and ready to go.
But 20 minutes into the show we got told to pack up, the fair would not run due to this thing called COVID-19. We were in shock – all the food booth people were in double shock (they had food ready, food that would be destroyed due to this), the fair staff were also in shock (they have worked for months and most are volunteers!) and so the “pandemic” ensued.
No shows for us – and we chilled in FL (couldn’t be that bad right?) and waited. And waited some more.
The plan to be snow birds and do shows in the US for the winter and come back to Ontario for the summer wasn’t exactly gelling. So, at the beginning of June 2020, we decided to reenter Canada – my husband was born in Canada and I have LPR. The summer passed as did the fall. In September it began to get cold and even frosted. We live in our 26 ft travel trailer. It became apparent we might have an early freeze and should head south. We waited until mid-October when it actually snowed and the water lines froze overnight. But at the US border – we were refused due to my husband holding no status (despite holding a green card for 33 years of his life before becoming a missionary to Canada) in the US and getting away from the freezing temperatures was not considered ‘essential’. So…we were blessed to find a basement apartment in which to abide until the border opens.
Fast forward to August 2021…still waiting on my husband to be able to drive our one ton van pulling our 26′ trailer across from Canada into the United States. Oh sure, he could fly. Ah yes, we could pay someone to haul our trailer across for us? Who’s got the time or the money for that? Call me if you do!
I said all that to say this: Woo! A show in Ontario!!
